Step 15: CA, Petaluma. MORE Drums For Burning Man.

Burning Man permeates San Franciscan society at all levels, from the outlaws of Oakland to the tech heads of Palo Alto and the heads of Haight Ashbury. Some of the Burning Man art gets installed around the city and the Burning Man organization is headquartered in a very cool office in the Mission.

I met BettieJune who runs the Art last year at Burning Man and found her to be a very cool and no nonsense lady who does a great job of corralling the herd of cats that are the Burning Man artists every year. I told her about the MORE Drums installation I originally created in Australia and then for Figment Festival in NYC and she got excited about the idea of the Drums out on the Playa as they haven’t had anything like that for a while.

So when I came out to the west coast I reconnected with Bettie June to let her know I was around and we made a time to meet one afternoon when I was in San Francisco. We talked about the MORE Drums and when I told her I was thinking of putting a set together for this years Burn she encouraged me to do so. So I researched online and found a place where I could buy twenty drums. They were delivered a week later and over the next few days Doug, Blare and I put them together. Doug helped enormously and Blare did a phenomenal job on stenciling the sides. And Dickie designed and did the majority of installation of the lights so they can be seen at night. So now the MORE Drums are sitting in Petaluma and are ready to go.
