I was happy to get back to Petaluma where I could finally start to get ready for the big journey ahead. I felt exhausted and burnt out from the whole drama of leaving NYC and then driving over one thousand miles in less than a week. As well as the stress of trying to learn new equipment and new skills as quickly as possible. I dropped off the rental car at San Francisco airport and rode the bus back to Petaluma.
I set up camp in one of the warehouse bedrooms and Blair and Maurizio were living in the room next door. I met Blair, who sings and makes cool art/posters etc at last years Burning Man when we were all working on the Lost Tea Party sculptures conceived by Alex ‘Wreckage’ Wright and corralled into existence by Scotty Collinson. I originally met the Mighty Maurizio when I was hanging out once again with the Mutoid Waste Co.in London back in 2011. He is a small Italian who is one of those maddeningly talented individuals that not only does Front Of House sound for artists like Asian Dub Foundation and Massive Attack, but is also a superb sculptor and all around good guy.
A few days after I got back from the ‘quick road trip’ we went out into Petaluma for a few drinks and some dinner on a Friday night. He ended up completely hammered and we staggered back to the warehouse together, where he declared his devotion to Blair and fell over in a heap. And then got up again and they recorded some excellent music together before they headed off to bed.
