After lunch at Sambo’s in Santa Barbara, I made my way up the coast to San Simeon where I stayed the night at the Sea Breeze Inn after wandering the local beach. Earlier on the road that day I’d seen a group of tourists from China and it turned out they were staying the night at the same hotel.

I got into a conversation with one of them when we were both outside smoking cigarettes and he was very impressed with the purpose of my journey. I was impressed with his knowledge of America and desire to see the country.
